Scheduled visits to a cosmetologist make the skin cleaner, fresher, younger. And regular workouts maintain the effect. How to combine fitness and cosmetic procedures? And is it true that playing sports reduces the effectiveness of some of them? Let’s talk!

Fitness is an integral part of the lives of many people. And, contrary to rumors, it goes well with cosmetology. But you need to understand when it is better to postpone training, and when, on the contrary, you should not skip it.

Fitness After Cosmetic Procedures: What You Need to Know

Many beauty procedures do not produce an effect immediately, in the cosmetologist’s office, but after some time. After a few days or weeks. And the result will largely depend on the lifestyle you lead.

Intense training can slow down the natural restoration of the skin or distort the effect of the procedure, or even completely eliminate it. This is facilitated by:

Pressure on the affected area. Some sports require protective equipment – special helmets and goggles. Even with the correct size, they can put pressure on the skin, which can interfere with its natural restoration or cause injected drugs to migrate. Even something as simple as wiping sweat from your face with a towel can cause skin irritation and inflammation after chemical peels or injections.

Increased blood circulation. During physical activity, your heart rate increases. This stimulates blood flow to the skin, which can affect the results of the procedure – “dilute” the injected drug, causing swelling and bruising. Even leisurely yoga classes can distort the results if they include inverted asanas, which increase blood flow to the head.

Facial expression. Absolutely all physical activity, one way or another, causes movement of the facial muscles. For example, while jogging, a person may find themselves breathing with their mouth open or exhaling forcefully. Exercising with weights can also cause facial muscle movement. If a person has resorted to Botox injections and the neurotoxin for some reason cannot completely relax the muscles in the affected area, then the expected effect will not occur. Another possible complication is the migration of the toxin to other areas of the face, which is very dangerous.

When Is It Safe to Exercise After Procedures?

Each cosmetic service has its own rules. The cosmetologist will tell you in detail about them at the appointment and give individual recommendations.

Depending on the type of procedure, you can return to training:

At Once

There are procedures after which physical activity is very indicated and there is no need to cancel it. This is, for example, ultrasonic cavitation, which breaks down subcutaneous fat into triglycerides. After that, you can immediately go to the gym.

In 1-3 Days

After skin care procedures – for example, skin cleansing, massage, it will be enough to take a break of 1-2 days for the skin to recover.

After injection procedures – for example, mesotherapy or biorevitalization – recovery will take 2-3 days, since during training there is a possibility of infection of the injection site.

After 1-2 Weeks or More

After hardware techniques that damage the skin surface – photorejuvenation, laser resurfacing, needle RF lifting – it is better to postpone sports for 1-2 weeks. And thread lifting requires facial rest during the rehabilitation period, so training restrictions will be for 2 weeks. For more active sports (boxing, wrestling), restrictions can reach up to a month.

After injection of the filler, the drug is integrated into the tissue within 2 weeks. The first 2 weeks are also important for botulinum therapy. The fewer impacts that accelerate metabolism during this period, the better the effect. And when this process is completed, you can safely return to your normal daily life.

Does Fitness Reduce the Effect of Beauty Treatments?

After complete restoration of the skin, fitness training can be safely continued. But many adherents of an active lifestyle are concerned about how this will affect the results achieved.

During training, blood circulation and microcirculation in the layers of the skin increase. Therefore, in patients actively involved in sports, the effect of botulinum therapy and fillers based on hyaluronic acid is reduced. The effect of the procedures can also be reduced by nutritional supplements containing B vitamins. They accelerate the restoration of facial expressions, and thereby reduce the effect of botulinum toxin.

What can be done? Tell your cosmetologist about your training. Perhaps in your case you need to replace preparations based on hyaluronic acid with preparations containing calcium hydroxyapatite or polylactic acid. And in the case of botulinum toxin, athletes will have to give injections more often and refrain from taking group B drugs unless there are health reasons.

In fact, everything is individual. Some people break down hyaluronic acid quite quickly even without training due to the individual characteristics of the body. In this case, it is better to give preference to hardware and non-invasive modern aesthetic techniques. But you need to understand that it will take more time to get results, since a course of procedures is required. Personal responsibility of the specialist and working with truly effective cosmetics are also important.
